CHEERLEADING IS SAFE - OFFICIAL FIGURES
Cheerleading is safe, relative to other athletic sports, according to the US National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) 1998.
Of injuries treated in American hospital emergency rooms 18,858 were related to Cheerleading, compared with 31,446 in gymnastics; 169,734 in Soccer; 631,186 in Basketball, and 355,247 for American football.
At the National Cheerleading Coaches Conference in Feyetteville North Carolina, it was stated that there are currently 6.8 million Cheerleaders in America, practicing an average 6 hours a week.
Cheerleading is a competitive athletic discipline in 32 countries, involving gymnastics, dance, tumbling, partner stunts and pyramid building.
